The world creaks

Redelae does not only talk about living arts, that is why we propose to review a little the essential political dilemma of the state of the contemporary world that lies in the tension between peace, dialogue and legality, as well as the sense of species and its survival, that is, a policy oriented towards life and democracy. But this sense is diluted amid the obsessions of power, control and possession. The indifference evident in numerous nations, organizations, institutions and leaders is similar to that observed in 1913 or 1933, when attention was focused on the most immediate issues while millions of people unknowingly marched towards death. In the present, an anomie of long-term policies is expressed and a serious anemia in historical memory that will be remembered in the years to come as one of the drifts that led us to the global swamp. The unawareness regarding the seriousness of current events is, moreover, a cultural, ethical and rational vacuum that persists in a sea of news-spectacle. Moral collapses in the long human saga collude when extreme tensions of geopolitical power coincide with international elites with little global vision, in psychosocial frameworks of apathy close to hedonism and intellectual boredom related to insensitive academics and artists, as is happening today on an international scale.

Paraphrasing Aristotle’s Poetics, it could be pointed out that the difference between the historian and the poet is in that the historian signs what happened and the poet what could or can happen. Poetry, in this way, flies into the impossible, while history is anchored in facts that, although complex, are narrated from their materiality. In this 21st century we know with amazement that the possible and the impossible collude in the same turn and crisis of civilization, its immediate history and its perspectives (or rather realities) of violence have dislocated a good part of the social and human sciences, and the creative field of the arts, cornering them in analysis of conjunctures. Even so, the most learned studies and writings of this time speak from perplexity and doubt, not from certainties and dogmas.

The end of certainties marks the possible beginning of other ways of narrating reality through the arts, and in particular the performing arts. There is little emphasis on peace and much less on coexistence in diversity. From other perspectives, liquid worlds and uncertainties, chance and indeterminations, emergencies and ruptures are conceptualized from a kind of creative perplexity that no longer looks at history as a great story and mechanics of the political destiny of being.

Hence, we must promote these spaces in which the concept of arts and creation as controversial and argumentative, active and provocative knowledge is simmered. A place where everything is studied, everything is debated and the argument is the basis of dialogue and respect. A world without the critical visions coming from its musicians would exhaust its vision of humanity, replacing walking with wandering and knowledge with the possible standardization of artistic creation interfered with by Artificial Intelligence, which, by the way, urgently requires the drawing of ethical limits for this interaction between the world of machines and human beings. The arts are the territory from which we can look into the creative dimension in those aesthetics of the present that allow the use of a tool that allows new ways of expressing oneself and that make life worth singing and that, as Gonzaguinha (Brazilian singer) said, “But that does not stop me from repeating: (life) “It is beautiful, it is beautiful and it is beautiful.”
