REDELAE and the Spanish Network of Theatres meet at the Festival del Sur

Agüimes (Gran Canaria), October 22, 2026

Within the framework of the Festival del Sur – Three Continents Theatre Encounter, and invited by the festival organizers, the Agüimes Theatre Auditorium hosted a meeting between the Spanish Network of Publicly Owned Theatres, Auditoriums, Circuits and Festivals and the Euro-Latin American Network of Performing Arts (REDELAE). The meeting was attended by representatives from both networks and the host festival.

For the Spanish Network:

  • Marta Monfort, President (Vitoria-Gasteiz Municipal Theatre Network);
  • Paco Flor, Vice President (Teatro Chapí de Villena);
  • Pedro Blanco (Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival);
  • María Elena de García Cubero, Board Member (Networks and Circuits Commission, Albacete Cultural Consortium);
  • Lorea Arrieta, Board Member (Performing Arts Unit and Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development).

For REDELAE:

  • Octavio Arbeláez (Manizales International Theatre Festival);
  • Beatriz Quintero (REDELAE Executive Secretariat);
  • José Luis Rivero (Auditorio de Tenerife).

For the Festival del Sur:

  • Juan Valentín Rodríguez (Festival Producer).

It should be noted that Lorena Matute is also part of REDELAE.

The Festival del Sur – Three Continents Theatre Encounter was born with the purpose of creating links between the cultures and scenes of Africa, Europe, and Latin America. It has been held since 1988 and is the oldest theatre festival in the Canary Islands and one of the oldest in the Spanish state.

The meeting began with a round of introductions of the attendees. Afterwards, each network presented its work. During the meeting, it was highlighted that the REDELAE catalog was inspired by the model of the Spanish Network. Both parties agreed that it is a very useful tool for the Ibero-American performing arts sector.

We propose the dissemination of the annual catalogs by both networks through their respective communication platforms, including websites, communications, etc.

As an agreement, the presidency of the Spanish Network will carry out the necessary internal procedures to implement this initiative, and the REDELAE side expressed its willingness to proceed with this management. Both networks will remain in contact to advance its implementation.
