Detrás Del Sur: Danzas Para Manuel

It is a tribute to the maestro Zapata Olivella based on one of his most recognized works: Changó, el Gran Putas, where his creative genius and meticulous documentation work on the Afro-descendant diaspora in the American continent come together. Our work explores emblematic references that make up various moments of the five-act epic poem “Hijos del muntu” in the Americas. In this way, daring omens, miraculous births, and libertarian rebellions are staged through dance and evocative and suggestive dramaturgy, which interweaves the pain of miscegenation with the nostalgia of no return. During the play, the audience will be able to observe, from an intimate perspective, how the vicissitudes of enslaved men and women are intertwined with the intervention of their ancestors, their dead, and the orishas Yemayá, Elegba, and Changó, forgers of their destinies.
